Bluff

This Colombian crime comedy centers around a guy getting revenge on his boss after finding him with his girlfriend. Nicolas (Federico Lorusso) works as a photographer. We find out in a flashback that he has to freelance because he found his girlfriend Margarita (Catalina Aristizabal) and boss Mallinaro (VĂctor Mallarino) together, and Mallarino has fired Nicolas as retaliation fro his job as a tabloid photographer. Although Margarita subsequently marries Mallarino, Nicolas still wants her back.

Nicolas’ landlady is killed by her lover and Nicolas fears he will be blamed although he is innocent of the crime.  Mallarino now has tired of Margarita and has a new mistress, and Nicolas thinks he can blackmail Mallarino with photos.  But instead Mallarino offers Nicolas the lucrative chance to bump Margarita off for him, and the unprepared Nicolas hatches a plan to dispose of his landlady’s body, kidnap his ex-girlfriend in an attempt for her to fall in love with him again, and frame his boss. There are also corrupt policemen which complicates Nicolas' seat-of-his-pants plan.

This set up gets a little complicated for the audience and includes a lot of happenstance. Also, throughout the story Margarita is not a likeable character and does not want to get back with Nicolas at all, so for Nicolas to fight to win her back by doing all these despicable things makes him appear valueless. Although the film is called "Bluff" I think this English title is not quite accurate as so much of Nicolas' plan comes out of chance and not planning, so he was not prepared to bluff in the first place.
