Point Blank (French film)

Not the one starring Lee Marvin, this one involves a male nurse who is strongarmed into helping a criminal break out of a hospital. The bad guys kidnap his pregnant wife to motivate him, thus putting an average guy into a situation he is unused to.

At first the nurse is desperately trying to do everything right so his wife is safe, but he and the criminal he breaks out find that there are some bad apples among the police so they are actually both in danger. The two men cooperate a little and the criminal is shown to be somewhat “noble” as the men try to evade capture for each of their own reasons.

This is a new-ish premise which ended up being a bit cliché by the end, such as the wife giving birth at an inconvenient moment and a few doublecrosses, which I was expecting. I did appreciate a little that there was a couple women police officers. The odd couple premise and quick action in lots of confined quarters makes this action film more interesting than most, and stars a cast unknown to me.

And do European police detectives all wear leather jackets? It seems so, according to the movies.
